sandringham flower show 2009
"Support" (The Norfolk Hospice) - Gold and Best in Show large show garden.
The Norfolk Hospice (Tapping House) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and to open the celebrations a large show garden was exhibited on their behalf. The Norfolk Hospice provides vital support for patients and families within the community and in turn relies upon the community for support.
- The garden designed and created is a space for peace and reflection, with the sky above providing the release.
- The two oak cubes represent the community (large) and the family (small) and are made of oak that represents the continuity of life.
- Soft tactile sand is placed within the large cube as a contemplative comfort and flexible support in contrast to the oak.
- Gravel is used as a mulch highlighting that at times life can provide a sharp reminder of the challenges we face.
- Polished stainless steel spheres emphasise reflectivity and the light whilcst a blank boundary represents the unknown challenges ahead.
The minimal but strong planting has a very specific concept, for details of the plants and their role
see plant list here.
The Best in Show award is supported by the Eastern Daily Press newspaper that provides extensive pre and post show coverage. EDP photographer Ian Burt visited just after the garden was completed to take this image that was on the newspapers special supplement for show day.
