Rejection, failure, answer the question ...
Tuesday 16th March 2010
Oh dear, rejection, failure to adher to the brief, a lesson learnt. Recently asked to name my 'favourite flower or plant' in 50 to 100 words the following piece was offered for consideration;
"Professional plants people speak voraciously about their specialities, singing the praises of their nominees. Keen amateurs talk feverishly about each plant as they proudly display their garden. Garden designers might discuss "
subtle nuances" between plants, sounding overly pretentious. Me, I like plants that are; living, thriving, happy in the right place, not alone and doing a good job with suitable neighbours in the space available. Be it a standing tree in the countryside to bursting herbaceous border, an exclusive perennial or humble native if the plant meets those criteria it is my favourite. If pushed it has to be..."
Thought the piece was not going to polarise or offend anyone and yet clearly stated what my interpretation of 'favourite' was. Unfortunately not, failed to answer the question. Never mind I look forward to reading what others have submitted in eager anticipation of seeing the error of my attempts at simplicity. The author of my own downfall.
