A new beginning ....
Sunday 15th March 2009
Wow, what a couple of months it has been, simply never ending, incessant, unremitting and so time consuming, but at last the new dynamic website has burst forth into the sunlight. The initial thinking of reviewing the 'old' site actually begain last autumn but with events and circumstances taking there toll on time it was pushed back to become the first New Year resolution. In fact thinking about it it is the first New Year resolution made for around ten years that has actually been seen through to a conclusion. Makes one smile when a fact like that appears. The 'old' site was nice to look at but too static, rather fixed in it's ways so to speak and a desire for something active, more in-house was required. Garden designers are constantly at work, the mind a whirr of ideas and concepts. To be able to use the website as an outlet seemed a natural extension to the little black book of notes and sketches. The news was being used for a multitude of things and to be able to separate out the 'news' from the 'opinion' was sensible. And then along came the new phenomenon of twitter. What that could do seemed incongruous at first but ideas began to form as to how it might be useful, watch out for further ideas on that over the coming months.
So the key additions were settled upon, together with adding a mass of information to assist those in the process of considering garden design. Improving the imagery within the site and being able to alter the feel and currency of the site was next. Carrying a portfolio of plans, photographs and the like around is fine but it comes at a point in the process with a client whereby they would prefer to see this before arranging an intial consultation. Over time techniques and style of presentation change so why not change them directly online as well. Perhaps even getting to the point where a client can see and review their own project on line. Concept understood the compliment to that was the requirement to upload the latest plant and planting scheme images as they are seen. What better way of marking the progress of the year with it's ever changing weather and climates than by the upload of pictures of the plants and flowers of the moment.
It all became very industrious, graphic designer and garden designer firing ideas and comment off each other, the proofs slowly developing into the finished articles. Then graphic designer and garden designer were joined by web designer, wielding fingers in a flurry of technical coding. Testing was intense and subtle enhancements and improvements made along the way. Garden designer learnt how to be a web designer for a bit, memories of a long forgotton past career re-emerged, site was learnt about, the power and the glory marvelled at.
And so here we are, a news update is posted announcing the new launch, plants of the moment loaded, twitter connectvity confirmed and online and this the first blog entry. Well no, it's not going to set the world on fire with its first attempt, merely give a taste as to how we got to this point. Plans for the coming months within this garden design blog are being finalised. crowe garden design welcomes those new and returning visitors, the new beginning is officially underway, may god bless all who sail in her.
