Sandringham flower show 2009 - Gold & Best in Show
Monday 3rd August 2009
The large show garden (8m x 8m) "Support" exhibited on behalf of the Norfolk Hospice at this years Sandringham flower show was logistically the biggest challenge undertaken to date for a show.
The conceptual garden was based around the theme of 'support', both the support of the family and the community. These two were represented by over-sized cubes constrcuted from FSC/PEFC green oak by the Royal Warrent holders to HM Queen, Pattrick and Thompsons of Kings Lynn.
With a permanent relocation planned to the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Kings Lynn in the near future the garden was presented for judging by Chris Beardshaw and Alan Mason. The result was a Gold award and Best in Show, an outcome that ensures that hte charity will gain much valued publicity and exposure as it commences it's 25th anniversary year.
Last year the large show garden entry was awarded Gold but differed hugely in it's planting, it being a very contemporary 'cottage' style of planting for high summer. This year a simple green planting saw every one of only 33 plants representing a key purpose within the concept.
